Important Aspects Of Baby Formula Defined

By: Chris Channing

If a mother is unable to breast-feed her child for any reason, or any persons are required to feed a baby that are not the infants mother, there is only one acceptable way to feed the child. That is a solution typically known as baby formula. Baby formula gives the infant all of the nutrients he or she would be given by breast-feeding, that are greatly needed in the baby's development. All of this can be done without forcing the mother to feed her baby by means of her own body.

There are three main versions of baby formula that can be commonly found. There are good things about each option. Convenience of preparation and price are the two biggest factors in choosing between the three. They are powdered formula, concentrated formula, and ready to feed formula.

When price is an issue powdered formula is the way to go. It is much cheaper than the other two but also takes the most effort to prepare before the baby can consume the formula. Water must be boiled and the powder is then poured in to the water. Then it must be mixed thoroughly until the powder has totally dissolved into the water. Sterile water can be purchased in order to skip the boiling stage but this will only add to the cost of the formula and is not necessary to those trying to save money.

The next form of formula is concentrated formula. It is a thick concentrate that is slightly easier to prepare than powder but also more expensive. The preparation methods are virtually the same except the mixing process is made much easier by the concentrate. Concentrated is preferred by those who have to be on the move because when sterile water is used the formula can be mixed in the bottle and shaken up. After than if the baby is not young enough that he or she requires a warm bottle, the formula can be drank.

Ready to eat formula is definitely the easiest method to feed an infant. Although it is the most expensive you are able to skip any preparation stages of feeding the baby. As you can guess from the name you simply buy the formula and feed it to your baby. It is advisable to heat the formula for smaller babies just as you would with other formulas.

There are other versions of baby formula that could be recommended by a baby's doctor if the baby is not able to digest standard formulas. If something like this occurs do not worry too much because it is very common. It simply means that a baby has a sensitive stomach and can not handle a certain type of formula.

Making baby formula at home is not advisable during early stages of an infant's life. If a mistake would occur it could greatly affect the baby's health, due to the fact that babies have a very sensitive system which can not break down certain foods. That is why making these formulas should be left up to professionals who are paid to do so.

Sweeteners of any sort should not be added to a baby's formula. That includes sugars and honey. Goat and cow milk should not be used as a replacement for formula, the only form of milk that a baby should be given is human breast-milk.
